Why use Mytelnet?
Oh, hi there! Welcome to the future. Here we have a multitude of tools to keep in contact, inform and manage information across even more devices. One such platform is not like the others -- featuring a highly scalable, low-cost first-tier network, Mytelnet is the mobile communications solution tailored to every business.
The Mytelnet communications platform is a fresh, integrated approach to connecting your business, allowing you to communicate and collaborate seamlessly. The whole setup is extremely sophisticated, yet intuitive and simple to use from download to application. This makes it easier to keep track of all communication from a central hub, while you focus on what’s important.
What does Tier One mean?
This means that we interconnect directly with South Africa’s major mobile and fixed-line network operators at rates that are regulated by ICASA, rather than having to use intermediaries that introduce an unnecessary cost. What's more, our international partners allow you to communicate with your global partners at the best rate possible.
It serves as a second telephone number that can be used to dial just about anyone over an internet connection. This includes the traditional voice call, a chat-app experience as well as video calling capabilities. All done from any device you’re comfortable using. Windows? Check. macOS? Check. Android? Check. iOS? Also, check.
Regardless of the platform, Mytelnet operates like a normal phone that sends a push message to another phone to ring and make a call. This is different to cloud PABX, which is an online application where the user needs to be in the app to use a function. Mytelnet isn’t limited by app-specific use, and receiving a call through Mytelnet is identical to receiving a call through a network.
How it works:
When making a call, the receiver will be notified just like a normal phone call.
The service works over mobile, LTE and fibre connections.
Its dashboard keeps track of data usage and airtime allocation.
It allows users to have two profiles -- one for personal use and one for business.
Mytelnet implements hardy security measures to keep your data safe.
Downloading and using the app is seamless.
The app even allows users to manage and set up their own PABX and contact list.
Using Mytelnet, users can:

How to Create a Profile
1. ACCOUNT
Getting set up on a platform in the 21st century should be a breeze for anyone who has ever held a smartphone. Sounds easy, doesn’t it? Well, you’re in luck.
The communicator’s journey starts off where you’d expect it -- on the home page of Mytelnet. Up first is the creation of a user profile. Each new user profile comes with a 30-day free trial period, so you can see whether we’re the right fit for your business communications needs.
On the landing page of www.mytelnet.co.za, hit the ‘Start your free trial’ button, and you’re off to a great start. Create a profile using your Google account (any Google business or .gmail account will work for this one), a Facebook account (you’ll need to log into the social media platform for this one), or create a profile using an email address.
Choosing the email address route will guide you to the next step: Profile creation. Here you’ll have to complete a basic form that includes important info to get started. This includes developing a strong password (and remembering it), which you will use to log into your Mytelnet user account later on.
The chosen password would need to include at least one lower case and upper case letter, as well as a number and a symbol minimum. We know what you’re thinking. “How am I going to remember this?” Write it down, use a password manager or ask your pet to help you remember because it’s all for your online safety.
Concluding this form will prompt a verification email from Mytelnet that will include a one-time pin (or OTP, for short). Head over to your email inbox, check the shortcode you should have received from Mytelnet, and input that into the next page.
Note to the designer - please blur out all references to my email address)
2. BILLING
Congratulations, you’ve successfully created an account, now on to the details. You will now see a form that will be used to capture all the relevant billing information -- just go ahead and complete that form with all the relevant business details. You’ll need a Company Registration number on-hand, and if possible a VAT number for the business. This isn’t a compulsory field right now, but if possible, complete every field.
4. PAYMENT
After completing your billing info, you’ll have to complete the payment details for your Mytelnet account. Remember that the first month will serve as a free trial, after which you will start paying a monthly charge of R35. This will also allow you to load airtime using your bank account, as well as complete any extra charges over and above that.
Payment can be made using a cheque or credit card. You’ll have to make sure that the bank card you include as a payment method is enabled for online purchases. With regards to security, don’t stress. All of your card information is stored in a secure vault that can only be accessed by you to pay for top-ups, subscriptions and additional phone numbers.
You may need to provide another OTP (this time from your bank directly) to make funds available for Mytelnet. It will deduct a total of R1 from your account just to confirm that it works.
5. SETUP
Following this, you’ll have the opportunity to create your very own hub-name. This will be used as a personal/business domain where you’ll have access to your dashboard. A domain name can be anything from your personal name to your dog’s name, but we recommend using your registered business name to ensure branding across all levels.
6. COMPLETE
That was easy, wasn’t it? If you’ve gotten this far, you just set up a new account on Mytelnet, and are ready to explore some of its brilliant communication features. After setup is complete, you’ll receive a friendly welcome message along with a clickable button to head to your business dashboard.
Setup and Installation
Unlike a conventional telephone line, Mytelnet operates over an internet connection. This means that you’ll need some form of an internet connection to make calls. But it also means that you won’t need a telephone line or pay network airtime costs.
Mytelnet runs using an app -- either on the web (on Mac or Windows) or a mobile app (Android and iOS). It gives you a mobile or telephone number on your device and rings (or dials) the recipient like an actual phone call. Ir differs from other conferencing apps in that it pushes calls to mobile phones or landlines, where it’ll pop up as a call on the other end.
Using Mytelnet, you’ll be able to call all of the mobile network numbers in SA, as well as landline numbers and other Mytelnet users.
Use the Mobile App
To make use of the mobile app, you’ll have to install it onto your mobile phone using the app installer. On an Apple device, head to the App Store and search for the Mytelnet app and simply install it. The same goes for an Android device, but here you’ll use the Play Store. Once the app is installed, simply log in with the username and password chosen at setup.
Another method to log into the mobile app, is by using the QR code easy login feature. On the app’s landing screen, you’ll find a ‘Scan your QR Code prompts underneath the login option. To use this feature, head to the desktop web application, log into your account and click on ‘Users’ on the left-hand side of the screen. This is where you’ll add new members of the organisation.
Choose your profile and hit the purple ‘Manage’ button. On the following screen, you’ll see your unique QR Code, which you can scan using the mobile app to log into the account quickly and seamlessly.
Set up the team
After successfully setting up a profile (on the web), you’ll be greeted with the Mytelnet dashboard. Here you’ll have an overview of your account information, user activity and airtime balance.
Now it’s time to get the rest of the team set up. Head to the sidebar on the left-hand side and click on the ‘Users’ tab -- this is the hub where you’ll have the opportunity to make and manage user profiles. Each user will receive an extension number, which other users on the Mytelnet app can dial to quickly get a hold of another person within the organisation.
Each user setup can include more information such as the department they work in, and will display whether that person is available to call or not. You’ll even be able to set up a password for each user to access the main portal through their own apps.
This is especially useful if you plan to elect a virtual ‘front of house’ person, through which all of the calls will be routed. This user will be able to easily redirect calls to other users through the Mytelnet app -- this will streamline call management and customer service possibilities.
You should now be adequately set up and ready to use your brand new Mytelnet account. Explore all of the functions across the web application as well as the mobile app to get a better feel for the platform, and we’ll dive into more detailed functions at a later stage in this manual.
Common problems and troubleshooting
The setup and installation of the Mytelnet platform shouldn’t require much technical knowledge, but if there happens to be a mishap, it’s easy enough to figure out what could have gone wrong.
If you forget your password: We know, it happens to the best of us. You managed to design a stellar password containing all of the required symbols and shapes, but you’ve gone and instantly forgot the password. In this case, input your email address in the login page, and hit the red ‘Reset my password’ button. This will direct you to a page where you’ll have the ability to change your password. Crisis averted.
My app won’t download: If you’re struggling to download the mobile app from either the App Store or the Play Store, don’t panic. This just means that your mobile phone doesn’t have an active internet connection or you have run out of data. Make sure you’re connected to WiFi or a mobile data network when attempting to download the app, and that should sort it right out.
What data does Mytelnet use? Whoever your data provider is, you will be able to use your Mytelnet App. Be this the yellow, red, blue or black SIM, Mytelnet operates from them all. It’ll also function over any fibre, ADSL or LTE connection when you are using the office, home or public internet.
What happens if I’m out of data? If you are out of data when you’re receiving a call through the Mytelnet app, the call will come through. However, if you are trying to make a call you will need to top up your mobile data or be connected on a fibre, ADSL or LTE WiFi connection.
Is Mytelnet secure? Yes, Mytelnet is heavily encrypted and your personal profile and contacts are the top priority when it comes to keeping your personal, and business information protected.
